ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Italy, Youssef Balla, expressed his deep gratitude “for the numerous messages of solidarity, sympathy, and support received from broad sectors of Italian civil society and from numerous citizens, following the tragedy that occurred on July 19 in Bologna, in which Moroccan citizen Fakir Abderrahim lost his life during a police intervention.”
This is according to a statement, specifying that the Ambassador also appealed to the entire Moroccan community living in Italy to “remain united, responsible, and vigilant.”
Balla urged everyone, the statement continues, “not to give in to provocations or attempts to exploit this painful event, expressing their grief, alongside their Italian friends, with dignity, serenity, and full respect for public order.”
Balla then expressed regret “for certain public statements and positions that preempted the conclusions of the judicial investigation,” according to the statement.
The head of the diplomatic mission in Rome emphasized that such attitudes “reflect neither the values of coexistence nor the image of Italy as a recognized model of integration,” the statement further states.
The Ambassador finally reiterated his full respect for Italian judicial institutions, emphasizing that only the judiciary is competent to determine any liability, both regarding the compliance of law enforcement intervention with current regulations and in relation to any omissions, as well as acts committed by persons lacking authority.
The diplomat concluded by reaffirming that it is in everyone’s interest to shed full light on this tragedy, with strict respect for truth, justice, and human dignity.
