NEW YORK (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – The Head of Government of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch, declared that the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty constitutes the only realistic and lasting solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.
Speaking at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Akhannouch highlighted the international momentum in support of the Autonomy Plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. The Prime Minister recalled that a broad majority of the international community views the Moroccan proposal as the sole pragmatic and credible basis for definitively resolving the dispute.
This support, he stated, confirms that it is time to turn the page on what he described as an “artificial conflict,” in full respect of national sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom. He further drew attention to the socio-economic transformation underway in the Saharan provinces, driven by the new development model and Atlantic initiatives launched by the Moroccan Sovereign. These regions, he emphasized, are emerging as a strategic platform in the service of peace, security, and co-development.
Finally, the Head of Government reiterated Morocco’s full support for the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to achieve a definitive settlement of the Sahara dispute.
