Newcastle responds to Isak: “We never made any promises about his departure”

NEWCASTLE (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Newcastle have been at loggerheads with Alexander Isak, a striker currently under contract with the Magpies but eager to join Liverpool. “When promises are broken and trust is broken, the relationship cannot continue,” the player wrote on social media after expressing his pride at being named in last season’s Premier League team of the year.

Newcastle United responded promptly, having reportedly rejected Liverpool’s €140 million offer: “We clearly state that Alex remains under contract and that no club official has ever made any commitment regarding the possibility of Alex leaving Newcastle United this summer. We want to retain our best players, but we also understand that everyone has their own wishes and we listen to their opinions. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always consider the best interests of Newcastle United, the club, and our fans in all decisions, and we have been clear that the conditions for a transfer this summer have not yet materialized. We do not anticipate those conditions will be met. This is a proud football club with proud traditions, and we are committed to maintaining our family spirit,” the Premier League club said in a statement. It then concluded: “Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates,” Newcastle wrote.
