VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta’s climate adaptation efforts have been heavily criticised by the country’s Auditor General, who described them as “fragmented, underfunded and lacking robust monitoring” in a report presented to Parliament.
The audit reveals that just 4% of Malta’s 50 climate adaptation measures have been fully implemented, while 92% remain “ongoing,” with some dating back several years.
The report highlights serious gaps in preparedness for flooding and sea-level rise, noting that the country is still relying on outdated 2011 population data despite a 35% population surge. This risks diverting resources away from the areas most in need.
