VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – The Maltese government is intensifying its efforts to curb irregular migration and accelerate the repatriation of migrants, according to Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, Byron Camilleri. Speaking at the EU Council of Home Affairs Ministers in Luxembourg, Minister Camilleri outlined Malta’s ongoing strategy to reinforce border security and migration management.
Camilleri emphasized the crucial role of Frontex in protecting EU external borders and called for an expanded mandate that would allow the agency to conduct returns directly from third countries. He stressed that a robust and efficient return system is essential for an effective migration policy.
