ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has announced the appointment of Army Major General Diodato Abagnara as commander of UNIFIL, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
“A position of great responsibility in a crucial region, as well as a recognition of the important role Italy plays within the international community, in a period marked by tensions and crises. Our country reaffirms itself as a guarantor of peace and security, strengthening its commitment to the stability of the Middle East. Congratulations and best wishes to General Abagnara,” commented Defense Minister Guido Crosetto on X.
