TEHRAN (IRAN) (ITALPRESS) – All or none. This is the stance of the Iranian Football Federation, which has decided to boycott the draw for the final phase of the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for December 5 in Washington. Iran chose to respond this way after some visa applications for entry into the U.S. were rejected, including, for example, that of the Federation’s president, Mehdi Taj.
According to the Iran Times, the United States issued visas to only four members of the delegation: Amir Ghalenoei (coach), Mehdi Kharati (executive director), Omid Jamali (director of international relations), and Amir Mehdi Alavi (spokesperson).
“We have informed FIFA that, even though the decisions made are not related to the world of sports, the members of the Iranian delegation will not participate in the World Cup draw,” said Alavi, the federation spokesperson, on state television.
