Serbian Police delegation visits forestry Command

ROME (ITALPRESS) – As part of the European Union integration project “Facility supporting Serbia in Achieving the Objectives of Chapter 24: justice, freedom and security”, on May 28 a delegation of officials from the Police of the Republic of Serbia visited the Carabinieri Command for Forestry, Environmental and Agri-food Units (CUFAA).

Welcomed by General D. Massimo Zuccher, Chief of Staff, the group participated in a presentation of CUFAA’s areas of expertise, gaining insight into the Carabinieri’s specialized role in environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and food safety.

The visit also included a focus on the activities of the Wildfire Information Unit (NIAB), a flagship component of the Command in terms of wildfire crime prevention and enforcement, as well as the CITES Unit, which works to protect endangered animal and plant species and is involved in environmental and energy security activities.

The Serbian delegation expressed strong interest in the comprehensive information provided during the visit, especially since the Serbian police recently established a dedicated Environmental Crime and Protection Unit within the Criminal Police Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior. The visit is part of a broader mission to Italy aimed at studying strategies to combat environmental crimes.

Within a broader international framework, the Carabinieri Command for Forestry, Environmental and Agri-food Units frequently receives foreign institutional delegations, as the environmental specialization of the Carabinieri is considered one of the most efficient and widespread in the world.
