MEXICO CITY (MEXICO) (ITALPRESS) – The World Cup as assistant coach, then it will be Rafa Márquez’s turn to become Mexico’s national coach. The announcement was made by Federal President Ivar Sisniega. “The contract he signed with us states that after competing in the World Cup as assistant to Javier Aguirre, he will be the national coach,” said the FMF president.
The 46-year-old former national team captain and former Barcelona player (at Verona from 2014 to 2016) has previously admitted that his dream is to coach Barça, but in the meantime, he is focused on Mexico, which will open the 2026 World Cup with the opening match against South Africa on June 11.
In Group A, they will face South Korea and the winner of the playoffs between Denmark, Macedonia, the Czech Republic, and Ireland.
