LISBON (PORTUGAL) (ITALPRESS) – Currently sidelined with a dislocated left shoulder sustained in the match against Lazio and expected to return after the international break, Francisco Conceicao will also miss Portugal’s upcoming fixtures for disciplinary reasons.
Sent off against Norway on matchday four of the Nations League, the Portuguese winger, who plays for Juventus, has been handed a three-match suspension by UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body. Portuguese media reported the decision.
Conceicao, who was sent off after receiving two yellow cards within seconds for dissent, allegedly directed “insults” at the referee and used “offensive language”. As he made his way towards the dressing rooms, he reportedly became involved in a further altercation with the fourth official and had to be restrained by members of the national team’s coaching staff.
Conceicao will therefore miss Portugal’s final two group-stage matches – against Denmark in Braga on 14 November and Wales in Cardiff on 17 November – as well as the first leg of the quarter-finals scheduled for March. Portugal have already secured qualification for that stage.
