Malta to block entry of munitions ship bound for Israel

VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – A Dutch-registered cargo ship reportedly carrying military materials is en route to Malta but will not be allowed to dock, a senior government official confirmed.

The vessel Eendracht, currently off the coast of West Africa, began its journey in India and is shown on tracking site marinetraffic.com as heading to Malta. However, Transport Malta says it has received no formal request for the ship to enter port.

According to Irish news site The Ditch, the ship is transporting around 75 tonnes of missile bodies and six tonnes of Hexachloroethane, a chemical used in the production of 155 mm artillery shells deployed by the Israel Defence Forces.

The cargo is reportedly bound for IMI Systems in Ramat Hasharon, Israel. A Maltese government official stated, “We have no official news about this vessel yet. The last vessel seeking to berth with ammunition for Israel was not allowed entry. We have a standing position not to allow vessels with arms sailing towards any war areas”.
