LA VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta’s worsening traffic congestion and transport infrastructure challenges were front and centre as four Nationalist Party MPs met with a delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN).
The meeting, held in Parliament’s Committee Room, focused on aligning local transportation and tourism strategies with EU policies, while securing support for tailored solutions for the island nation. Emphasising Malta’s overwhelming dependence on private vehicles, the MPs called for urgent EU-backed investment to develop a comprehensive public transport system that meets the country’s unique needs.
The Nationalist delegation pressed for dedicated EU funds to bring this vision to life, pointing to Malta’s geographic isolation as an island state. They stressed that Malta’s particular challenges must be considered in EU policy and funding allocations, especially in the context of emission reduction goals and sustainability targets.
