LA VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta is prepared to play an active role in revitalized European Union and United Nations initiatives aimed at fostering lasting stability and institutional unity in Libya. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ian Borg while speaking on recent tensions in Tripoli.
Borg voiced Malta’s deep concern over the situation, warning that the escalating unrest highlights the fragile and volatile nature of Libya’s current state. “The recent escalation serves as a stark reminder that the current fragility is untenable. Underlying divisions are deepening, and the risk of renewed conflict is very real,” he said.
Borg welcomed Italy’s recent call for a more engaged EU approach to Libya, saying it strengthens the ongoing UN-led peace process. “Malta has always maintained that real, sustainable progress depends on a genuinely inclusive, Libyan-owned process,” he said.
“However, continued international engagement remains essential, particularly to safeguard Libya’s sovereignty, ensure full respect for the arms embargo, and advance the withdrawal of foreign forces.”
