Malta, Nigerian man arrested in Malta with 1kg of cocaine in his body

VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – A 53-year-old Nigerian man was arrested late Wednesday at Malta International Airport after allegedly smuggling around one kilogram of suspected high-purity cocaine in his body.

The arrest followed a joint operation by the Malta Police Force, Customs officials, and Detention Services. Authorities flagged the man during routine checks upon his arrival on a flight from Brussels.

Further investigation led to an x-ray examination, which revealed a large number of capsules hidden in his digestive system.

He was promptly transferred to Mater Dei Hospital, where medical staff confirmed he had ingested about 100 capsules filled with suspected cocaine.

According to law enforcement, the estimated street value of the drugs is approximately €300,000.

The man remains in custody as further investigations are underway. Authorities have not yet disclosed his identity, and legal proceedings are expected to follow.
