Malta launches new sport visa for non-EU trialists

VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – A new “Sport Visa” was officially launched by Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Byron Camilleri, allowing non-EU athletes to travel to Malta for club trials under a regulated system.

The visa, valid for up to 100 days and non-renewable, is part of broader migration reforms aimed at creating a fair and transparent entry process. It is intended for sportspersons invited by Maltese clubs for trial periods, and does not permit other employment during the stay.

Minister Camilleri said the new system enhances visibility and control over arrivals, ensuring the reasons for entry are legitimate. “Good governance requires clear and structured processes,” he said, noting the measure supports both migration management and the sports sector.
