Malta, government urged to halt military transfers to Israel

VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – A coalition of Maltese civil society organizations has issued a joint appeal to Foreign Minister Ian Borg, urging the Maltese government to prohibit the transfer of military supplies to Israel.

The appeal, signed by 18 NGOs, warns that such transfers risk facilitating grave breaches of international humanitarian law, including alleged genocide, apartheid, and illegal occupation. In their petition, the organizations demand that Malta adopt strict measures to prevent any Malta-flagged vessels from transporting arms or military equipment to conflict zones—particularly to Israel, amid growing international scrutiny of its military actions in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

“Malta’s civil society is united in urging the competent authority to fulfill its legal obligations under international law to halt any illegal transfer of military supplies destined for use in Israel’s genocidal violence,” the letter states.
