Malta, Freedom Flotilla vessel damaged by two aerial strikes

LA VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – The Freedom Flotilla Coalition has accused Israeli forces of targeting one of its vessels, the Conscience, in two separate aerial attacks near Maltese territorial waters earlier this month. The vessel, part of a humanitarian mission to Gaza, suffered significant damage and an on-board fire, according to a report released by Maltese authorities.

The Marine Casualty Damage Report confirms that the Conscience sustained two aerial strikes on its upper deck, causing a fire but ruling out the possibility of an internal explosion. The vessel was carrying no weapons or flammable materials, further supporting the coalition’s claim that the fire resulted from external military action.

The incident occurred as the Conscience was en route to Malta to collect humanitarian supplies and 44 passengers who were to join the mission to Gaza. The attacks also stranded crew members at sea, all of whom have since been safely repatriated.

Despite the Maltese report, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition expressed frustration over the lack of international response and transparency. “Maltese and EU authorities have still not allowed an independent, international forensic investigation of the Conscience”, the coalition stated. “This refusal to ensure full transparency and accountability is deeply troubling”.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition is preparing a new mission using a yacht named Madleen, dedicated to establishing a sea corridor to Gaza outside Israeli control. “The Madleen will sail soon to challenge Israel’s criminal blockade”, said the coalition.
