VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – A 62-year-old German doctor has been found guilty of assaulting a flight attendant aboard a KM Malta Airlines flight from Munich to Malta. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when Frank Stefan Siegward Wedel ignored the illuminated seatbelt sign and got up to use the toilet.
According to the Prosecution, when a crew member approached him to address the violation, Wedel aggressively grabbed her hand and pushed her, causing her to fall and hit her head. As she attempted to stand, he slammed the toilet door against her head and proceeded to use the facility.
The Defence argued that Wedel had recently undergone surgery for an aggressive prostate tumour and was in urgent need, claiming he acted out of panic and embarrassment. They also noted that Wedel immediately expressed regret for his behaviour.
However, the Prosecution countered that Wedel failed to cooperate with authorities and never informed the crew about his medical condition. No medical documents were provided to justify his actions.
The Court found Wedel guilty, sentencing him to a three-month prison term suspended for one year. He was also fined €5,000 and ordered to provide a €1,000 guarantee to remain law-abiding over the next year.
