VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Maltese football club Birkirkara FC has confirmed the appointment of Gianluca Festa as the club’s new head coach, following an extensive selection process. The Italian will lead the squad until the end of the 2025/2026 season.
Festa brings a wealth of managerial experience from Italy and Greece, having coached in Serie A, B, and C with clubs such as Cagliari, Como, and Lumezzane. He also worked in the Greek Super League with AEL, Apollon Smyrnis, and Lamia, where he earned a reputation for tactical discipline and resilience under pressure.
Before stepping into management, Festa enjoyed a highly respected playing career as a defender. He featured for Italian giants Inter Milan, AS Roma, and Cagliari, and gained Premier League recognition at Middlesbrough, where he became a fan favourite for his determination and leadership.
The appointment marks a new chapter for Birkirkara FC, as the club looks to build on Festa’s experience to strengthen its domestic and European ambitions.
