ISTANBUL (TURKEY) (ITALPRESS) – The betting scandal that broke out in Turkey “is a very sad thing. Problems of this kind have occurred in other countries as well, including in Italy in the past. But the identities of many players were stolen in order to carry out these operations.” Turkey coach Vincenzo Montella said this, speaking of the scandal in the local football and which yesterday saw 102 of the 1,024 players involved sanctioned with bans ranging from a minimum of 45 days to 12 months. “There’s another sad thing: in the third and fourth divisions these cases are even more frequent. In my opinion, we can be a little more effective in exchanging information. Above all, we need to inform the players about these issues. If a player bets, he must know that it’s prohibited. Unfortunately, I don’t think this has happened here. Many players have been victims of identity theft.”
