Hansi Flick, on the eve of Barcelona’s Champions League match against Olympiacos, addressed the controversy from the end of the game against Girona, when he was sent off for protesting and later celebrated Araujo’s stoppage-time winner with an inappropriate gesture.
“I can say that I love this club, I love Barcelona, I love the people here — they’re incredible — and I give my all for this team. I live for this club. When I see myself on TV in certain situations, honestly, I don’t like it. I don’t want my grandson to see me like that. Maybe I need to change my behavior.”
The red card will prevent Flick from being on the bench for the upcoming Clásico against Real Madrid. When asked about the possibility of refereeing decisions that might go against Barça, the German coach replied tersely:
“What should I say? I don’t know what to tell you… I’ve been here for 16 months, you’ve been here much longer. I prefer not to talk about it.”
