NEW YORK (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – Air quality in New York is expected to improve today, just days before the 2026 World Cup final, scheduled for Sunday, July 19.

A blanket of smoke caused by wildfires in Canada has enveloped the New York region, prompting authorities to urge residents to limit outdoor physical activity and remain indoors.

“If you can, stay indoors. If you have to go outside, drink plenty of water and wear a face mask,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said yesterday.

Air quality is forecast to improve throughout the day, while rain expected on Saturday should help clear the smoke from the area.

The MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will host the final between Spain and Argentina on Sunday, July 19 (9:00 p.m. local time).

More than 80,000 spectators are expected to attend the match at the stadium, while another 50,000 fans are expected to watch the final from Central Park.
