VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta and Poland are seeking to deepen cooperation in trade, technology, maritime services and education following talks in Warsaw.
Foreign and European Affairs Minister Chris Fearne met Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski to discuss bilateral relations and European affairs.
The ministers explored ways to connect Malta’s services, digital and maritime sectors with Poland’s expanding industrial and technology industries.
Investment, innovation and stronger institutional cooperation were also discussed.
On the European Union, Fearne and Sikorski stressed the importance of an EU capable of taking effective action while ensuring all Member States retain a meaningful role, regardless of size.
They also discussed future EU enlargement, equality among Member States and the bloc’s next Multiannual Financial Framework.
Both countries are members of the Friends of Cohesion group, with the ministers highlighting the continued importance of cohesion funding, competitiveness, investment and sustainable economic development.
The talks also focused on European security and developments in Ukraine and Libya.
Malta emphasised the importance of maintaining a “360-degree” approach to EU security, particularly given the impact of Mediterranean developments on Europe’s security and economic resilience.
Fearne later attended events marking Malta Day and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malta and Poland.
Addressing the anniversary, he highlighted the growth of ties between the countries over five-and-a-half decades, including in tourism, business and people-to-people connections.
