MANCHESTER (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – On the eve of the League Cup match against Norwich, the Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca revisited Sunday’s derby victory—a game decided by a Haaland goal that, by the English referees’ own admission, should have been disallowed. VAR came under fire for failing to correctly assess Enzo Fernandez’s offside position.
“To talk about a single incident or moment after a match where we played for 70–75 minutes a man down—I think that’s pretty serious,” Maresca vented. “I think the performance was incredible, and I’m satisfied with how the team played. A mistake was made, and that’s it. Sometimes it goes your way, sometimes against you. That’s football.” In this regard, Maresca recalled the derby defeat in January 2023, when VAR went against City—back when he was Guardiola’s assistant: “An illegal goal was scored against us, and we’re still waiting for an apology for that.”
