Pro-Ceuta message hidden: media storm for Mbappé, Vinicius, and Konaté

MADRID (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – Vinicius, Kylian Mbappé, and Ibrahima Konaté have found themselves at the center of a controversy. Last night, during the match against Elche, Real Madrid players took the field wearing—just as their counterparts from Betis and Villarreal had done on Monday—shirts bearing a message of support for the people of Ceuta, a Spanish enclave currently at the heart of a migration crisis involving Morocco.

However, Vinicius, Mbappé, and Konaté wore the shirts only partially, thereby obscuring the message “We are all citizens of Ceuta”; the first two even removed them before the pre-match protocol was completed. This behavior sparked significant criticism, although Real Madrid has stated that the club respects individual freedom and that not everyone is required to share the same viewpoint on such an issue.

“The club accepted Elche’s request to wear these shirts, but diverse opinions, sensibilities, and perspectives exist within our dressing room,” was the club’s stance conveyed to the Spanish media, noting also that “Barcelona refused to wear the same shirt before their match against Levante, and no one said a word.”
