Tunisia, Saied “We need to strengthen and modernize joint Arab action”

TUNIS (TUNISIA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) — Tunisian President Kais Saied stressed the need to strengthen and modernize joint Arab action so that Arab countries can have a stronger voice on the international stage and play a role in shaping global decisions.

Saied made the remarks today in Tunis during a meeting with the new Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy.

Saied highlighted the importance of developing new forms of Arab cooperation in the economic, security and scientific research sectors. He also called on Arab countries to consciously engage with the communications revolution and technological transformations in order to strengthen their international presence and ability to exert influence.

According to the Tunisian president, the profound transformations currently taking place around the world, along with common challenges, require greater solidarity and collective action, as well as an overhaul of the mechanisms and institutions underpinning joint Arab action.

Saied also argued that the time has come for Arab countries to take the initiative and counter attempts to divide and fragment the region, warning against the risk of new solutions being imposed from outside along the lines of the Sykes-Picot agreements.

During the meeting, the Tunisian president also stressed the need to strengthen the role of the nation-state and fully restore its ability to guarantee citizens dignity and prospects for the future, particularly for younger generations.
