NEW YORK (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – Elye Wahi, the Ivorian forward currently representing his national team at the World Cup, is reportedly under investigation in France by the Marseille prosecutor’s office over alleged match-fixing.

According to The Athletic, the player was even arrested less than two weeks before the start of the tournament. The 23-year-old Nice striker is suspected of having deliberately attempted to receive a yellow card during his team’s match against Metz on May 17.

Wahi started for Ivory Coast on Sunday in Philadelphia in a 1-0 victory over Ecuador. The Elephants’ next match is scheduled for Saturday in Toronto against Germany.

In recent days, Canadian authorities denied a visa to Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey due to rape charges for which he is expected to stand trial next year in the United Kingdom.
