Nico Paz set to stay one more year at Como

MADRID (SPAIN) – A return to the Santiago Bernabéu can wait: Nico Paz still sees his future on the shores of Lake Como.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, the 21-year-old Argentine talent will play another season with Como 1907, much to the delight of coach Cesc Fàbregas.

The player’s own wishes appear to have been decisive. Paz has reportedly informed Real Madrid—which holds a buy-back option worth €9 million that can be exercised by June 30—that he wants to remain at Como, where, with the prospect of Champions League football on the horizon, he believes he can continue to develop.

At Real Madrid, he would not receive the playing time that Fàbregas can guarantee him. As a result, all parties involved have reportedly decided to leave the current arrangement unchanged. Even José Mourinho is said to favor gaining experience during his first season.

Moreover, Real Madrid will retain the final say over Paz’s future, as the club also holds an option to bring him back next year by paying €10 million to Como.
