Argentina breathes a sigh of relief, Lionel Messi will play his sixth World Cup

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Argentina is breathing a sigh of relief: Lionel Messi‘s physical condition is not a concern ahead of the upcoming World Cup (June 11-July 19). After leaving the field clutching the back of his left thigh in the 73rd minute of the MLS match against Philadelphia Union, the nearly 39-year-old Inter Miami star underwent routine tests, which revealed no particular issues.

“After further medical tests, the preliminary diagnosis indicates an overuse injury associated with muscle fatigue in the left hamstring,” reads a press release issued by the Florida team’s medical staff.

“His return to physical activity will depend on the evolution of his clinical and functional condition.” There was no mention, therefore, of a torn muscle or other serious injuries, which would have been a severe blow for the reigning world champions, led by Lionel Scaloni.
