RABAT (MOROCCO) (ITALPRESS) – Canada has recognized Morocco’s autonomy plan as a basis for a mutually acceptable solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.
This position was made clear in a statement released by the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following a telephone conversation between Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
In the statement, relaunched by the Moroccan news agency MAP, Ottawa also emphasized the importance of the Sahara issue for Morocco, noting United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 of October 31, 2025. Canada characterized the Moroccan plan as a serious and credible initiative to achieve a just and lasting solution to the conflict.
According to the Ottawa statement, the minister reiterated the need for a lasting, just, and mutually acceptable political solution, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions.
Finally, Minister Anand expressed interest in making an official visit to Morocco in the coming weeks, an opportunity to deepen bilateral dialogue and intensify consultations on the Sahara issue.
