ZURICH (SWITZERLAND) (ITALPRESS) – An unprecedented number of clubs will benefit from the next World Cup, thanks to the updated version of the FIFA Club Benefits Programme (CBP) that will be implemented for the 2026 World Cup.
Under the new memorandum of understanding signed in March 2023 between FIFA and the European Club Association (ECA), clubs that provide their players for the tournament will receive a total of €300 million.
The main change concerns the distribution criteria: for the first time, the programme allows access to the funds not only to clubs whose players will participate in the final phase, but also to those who release them for the qualifiers. This way, any club that releases a player for the qualifiers will be entitled to financial compensation, even if the player is not subsequently called up for the tournament.
This represents a further step towards a more inclusive approach to solidarity and redistribution at the global level. As FIFA President Gianni Infantino underlined: “The enhanced edition of the FIFA Club Benefits Programme for the 2026 World Cup goes a step further, financially recognising the enormous contribution that so many clubs and their players around the world make to the organisation of both the qualifiers and the final tournament.”
Infantino added: “A record $355 million will be distributed to clubs for the release of their players, strengthening our strong partnership with the European Club Association and clubs around the world, as we look forward to a groundbreaking and globally inclusive edition of the FIFA World Cup next year.”
